About Cotta Cube

Cotta Cube is a new venture launched by Hameed Al-Qahtani, co-founder of Ceramic Cube, branching out as the next chapter from Ceramic Cube. It is set up to make tableware for Qatar’s restaurants, cafes and hotels.

From one wheel to a studio

Hameed is a Qatari ceramic artist and a mechanical engineer. He began teaching himself pottery in late 2017, mostly from YouTube, then started hand-building at the Souq Waqif Art Center. In March 2019 he sat at a potter’s wheel for the first time.

The same year he took first place in the Social Development Center’s “Development of Social Entrepreneurs” programme. Later that year he took part in a wood firing in Denmark. He came home sure that clay can draw people out of their own worlds and bring them together.

His first studio was small and rented, with one wheel and one table. A year later he opened a second small studio to test whether people would come to workshops. They came. In January 2022 Ceramic Cube moved to a much bigger space in Lusail.

For all that, he describes himself more simply: “I’m not an artist, I’m a craftsman.”

Ceramic Cube

Ceramic Cube is the one place in Qatar that brings workshops, memberships, tools and materials together, and the people who learn there tell us it is the best place to learn and keep improving. Since June 2026 it has been at Excellence Tower in West Bay: 195 square metres for anyone who loves and cares about pottery.

People come for wheel and hand-building workshops, including ladies-only wheel sessions, and classes for kids start at age six. The studio has sold more than 5,000 workshop seats and painted pieces since January 2022. Regulars join as members and come back to work on their own pieces. On Thursday evenings, Clay Club brings the community in.

The studio also runs sessions for schools, companies and institutions, in the studio or at their own venue. It has a track record of hospitality and institutional clients.

The last ingredient

Years of making with the community led Hameed to the next step: tableware for the people who serve food.

A chef chooses every ingredient on the plate. The plate itself comes last, and it is the first thing the guest sees. Dinnerware completes the dish. It is the last ingredient, and the one Cotta is set up to make.

Every order is bespoke. Cotta works to the client’s design for cups, plates, bowls and dinnerware, and develops each piece with them. Hameed is starting Cotta the way he started Ceramic Cube: small, and built to grow into production runs.

The name

Cotta comes from the Latin cocta, meaning fired. It is the cotta in terracotta: fired earth. The first firing, the biscuit or bisque fire, takes its name from the same root: bis coctus, twice cooked.

Firing is the one step in ceramics that cannot be undone. Before it, clay can always be reshaped. After it, the piece is fixed. Cotta Cube is named for that moment of commitment.

Still a startup

Cotta Cube is a ceramics manufacturing company in Doha, CR 249369, registered in 2026. Photos of its first finished pieces will go in the gallery. Working with Cotta starts with a short brief.
